Hollywood Star AJ Akua Johnson to Headline the 9th Annual Ghana Property & Lifestyle Expo in London

London, UK – October 2025: Hollywood is heading to Chelsea. US actress, life coach, and TV personality AJ Akua Johnson – best known for her roles in Baby Boy, House Party, and The Jamie Foxx Show – is bringing her star power and signature positivity to the UK as she officially opens the 9th Annual Ghana Property & Lifestyle Expo (GLPE) at the Pestana Chelsea Bridge Hotel on 15-16 November 2025.

Appointed Brand Ambassador for the 2025 GLPE Global Series by the expo’s founders Anna and Victoria Agyekum, Johnson’s new role celebrates her deep affection for Ghana and her commitment to empowering the global diaspora to invest with confidence in the country’s vibrant property and lifestyle sectors. Her enthusiasm for Ghana’s people, culture, and progress has made her a natural fit for this mission.

“Ghana feels like home,” says Johnson. “The GLPE isn’t just about property – it’s about purpose. It’s about reconnecting with our roots, investing wisely, and building something lasting for generations to come.”

Now in its ninth year, the Ghana Property & Lifestyle Expo has grown into a trusted international platform promoting real estate, trade, investment, and lifestyle opportunities in Ghana. Each year, it attracts thousands of diaspora professionals, investors, and industry leaders eager to engage with credible developers and financial institutions driving Ghana’s growth story.

This year’s GLPE proudly features key lead sponsors Royal Kingdom Estate, Goldkey Properties, and Clifton Homes, whose expertise and portfolio of verified developments highlight the highest standards of property investment in Ghana.

The 2025 theme, “Resolving Obstacles in the Ghanaian Property Market,” highlights the Expo’s commitment to practical solutions and transparency. From land ownership and financing to regulatory challenges and market education, the Expo fosters open dialogue between developers, policymakers, and the diaspora. Trust remains the biggest factor in turning interest into investment, and GLPE continues to bridge that gap – creating a safe, empowering environment where buyers can meet verified companies and advisors they can truly rely on.

“Trust is what converts curiosity into commitment,” explains co-founder Anna Agyekum. “The GLPE brings all the right people to the same table –  serious buyers, credible developers, and financial partners who want to do business the right way. It’s about clarity, education, and empowerment.”

Co-founder Victoria Agyekum adds: “Our mission has always been to simplify the process and make property ownership in Ghana accessible to everyone in the diaspora. We want people to see the opportunity, not the obstacles – and to feel confident that there are transparent, trusted pathways to invest and build a future back home.”

Ghana’s property market continues to command international attention. According to Statista (2025), Accra ranks as the third fastest-growing real estate market in Africa, reflecting the country’s economic resilience and expanding urban demand. The World Bank projects GDP growth of 4.8% in 2025, driven by construction and services, while Knight Frank reports average rental yields of 8–10% for prime developments in Accra.

The data tells a clear story of momentum. Over 60% of Ghanaians abroad intend to own property in Ghana within the next five years (IOM, 2023), while remittance inflows exceeding US$4 billion annually (World Bank & Bank of Ghana) are increasingly being directed into real estate, land, and lifestyle projects. Combined with rapid urbanisation and a growing middle class, these trends are positioning Ghana as one of Africa’s most stable and promising investment destinations.

Following a successful launch in Washington D.C. earlier this year, the GLPE Global Series continues its journey to London in November before concluding in Accra in December. At each stop, Johnson will participate in keynote panels, interviews, and networking sessions – championing credible investment and amplifying Ghana’s story on a global stage.

The celebrated London edition runs from Saturday 15 November 2025 to Sunday 16 November 2025 from 11am to 7pm at the exclusive Pestana Chelsea Bridge Hotel. The series finale will take place in Accra at the Alisa Hotel Pavilion on 16-17 December 2025, preceded by an opening night reception on Friday 12 December.

Mawutor Alifo, Head of Chancery, Ghana High Commission UK said: “For nine years, the Ghana High Commission UK has been a proud supporter of the Ghana Property & Lifestyle Expo a vital platform for promoting investment in Ghana and strengthening the enduring bond between the nation and its diaspora.”

Founded by UK-based Ghanaian sisters Anna and Victoria Agyekum, who also run respected real-estate agency On Point Property, the Ghana Property & Lifestyle Expo continues to empower the diaspora and international investors to invest safely and confidently in Ghana’s thriving property and lifestyle sectors. The Expo showcases verified developers, banks, and service providers while celebrating the creativity, stability, and growth potential of modern Ghana.

Over the past two decades it has shone a light on leaders and trailblazers who have had an impact by breaking barriers, redefining success, and inspiring future generations.

Kyei is one of the UK’s most senior finance leaders. She is the Chief Financial Officer & Executive Director at the Bank of England, leading financial governance of the £1 trillion balance sheet, funding reforms, and Payments critical national infrastructure upgrades while championing diversity and climate disclosure. She replaces last year’s number one, Tech CEO Dean Forbes, and is joined on this year’s list by former England and Arsenal footballer turned pundit Ian Wright who takes second place on the list.

World-renowned makeup artist and beauty entrepreneur Dame Pat McGrath, founder of billion-dollar brand Pat McGrath Labs takes the third spot on the list. Entrepreneur and Dragon’s Den investor Steven Bartlett, and actor, filmmaker, and philanthropist Idris Elba OBE also feature in the top 10 alongside Emma Grede CEO and Co-Founder, Good American, Founding Partner, SKIMS and Ije Nwokorie, Chief Executive Officer, Dr Martens.

The full Powerlist 2026 Top 10 is as follows:

  2. Ian Wright – Football Legend, Broadcaster & Advocate for Equity in Sport (New)
  3. Dame Pat McGrath – Makeup artist/Founder, Pat McGrath Labs
  4. Pamela Maynard – Chief AI Transformation Officer, Microsoft MCAPS
  5. Joshua Siaw – Partner, White & Case

  7. Steven Bartlett – Entrepreneur and Dragon, Dragon’s Den
  8. Emma Grede – CEO and Co-Founder, Good American; Founding Partner, SKIMS
  9. Idris Elba, OBE – Actor, Filmmaker, Philanthropist
  10. Ije Nwokorie – Chief Executive Officer, Dr Martens PLC

Newcomers on the Powerlist 2026, in partnership with J.P. Morgan, HSBC, and Gold Sponsor PwC, include actress Cynthia Erivo, DJ AG, the open-format DJ who has turned the streets of London and cities across the world into vibrant stages; and stylist, entrepreneur, brand ambassador for Marks and Spencer Melissa Holdbrook-Akposoe who has worked with clients include Stormzy and Anthony Joshua.

The Powerlist has become Britain’s pre-eminent celebration of Black talent in Britain, having been launched in 2006 by Powerful Media Ltd to celebrate and highlight the achievements of inspirational and influential people of African, African Caribbean, and African American heritage in the UK. What began as an annual publication has, over the past 20 years, evolved into a powerful platform that not only recognises and honours Black excellence across a wide range of sectors, but also plays a pivotal role in reshaping narratives, influencing perceptions, and inspiring future generations of leaders.

Afua Kyei said: “It is an incredible honour to be named Number One on the Powerlist in its 20th year. To be recognised alongside so many extraordinary individuals, past and present, is profoundly humbling. For me, this award is not about personal achievement – it is about representation, visibility, and possibility. I am especially delighted that someone from the public sector and financial services is being recognised in this way.”

“When young people see themselves reflected in spaces where they may not have imagined belonging, it changes what they believe is achievable. I hope my journey can encourage others to follow their dreams, pursue their passions, and to believe they can get to the very top.”

The Powerlist has been a beacon for two decades, and I am proud to be part of that legacy.”

This year’s Powerlistees will be honoured tonight at the Powerlist Celebration of Black Excellence Awards at JW Marriott Grosvenor House, Park Lane, which will be co-hosted by broadcaster and former elite sprinter Jeanette Kwakye MBE and Tim Campbell MBE, entrepreneur and advocate of inclusive leadership and advisor to Lord Sugar on The Apprentice.

Sir Lewis Hamilton, Edward Enninful OBE, Karen Blackett CBE, and Dame Sharon White are just a few of the high-profile names to have been awarded the coveted title as Powerlist Number One over the years.

Michael Eboda, CEO of Powerful Media Ltd, said: “When we launched the Powerlist back in 2006, our aim was simple – to highlight role models whose achievements could inspire others. What has happened over the past twenty years has exceeded anything we imagined. It has created visibility, shifted perceptions and, most importantly, shown young Black people that there is no limit to what they can achieve. To mark this 20th anniversary with Afua Kyei at Number 1 feels especially powerful – she embodies the leadership, resilience, and vision that the Powerlist was created to honour.”

As the Powerlist enters its third decade, its message is clear – Black talent is not just part of the story of modern Britain – it is at its very centre.

Keisha Bell, Global Head of the Office of Black Affairs for JP Morgan Chase, added: “The Powerlist has become a national institution. To celebrate its 20th year with Afua Kyei at Number 1 is both a recognition of her leadership and a statement about the continuing influence of Black excellence in shaping Britain’s future.”

Craig Cuffie, Group Chief Procurement Officer at HSBC added: “For twenty years, the Powerlist has amplified the voices and achievements of Black leaders whose impact is felt across every part of British society. At HSBC, we are proud to support this milestone anniversary and to celebrate Afua Kyei’s well-deserved recognition at Number 1. Her finance leadership, together with the brilliance of all those featured, reflects the talent, resilience and vision that are shaping a more inclusive and dynamic future for the UK.”

Judging criteria for the Powerlist is based on its definition of influence: “The ability to positively alter events and change lives as demonstrated over a reasonable period of time.” The previous year’s winner is automatically entered into the Hall of Fame.

Notes to Editors

1.The Powerlist 2026 and Celebration of Black Excellence Awards takes place on Friday October 24th, 2025, Grosvenor House, 86-90 Park Lane, London.

Established in 2006 by Powerful Media Ltd, the Powerlist was created to celebrate and shine a light on the UK’s most inspirational and influential people of African, African Caribbean, and African American heritage. Now celebrating its 20th anniversary, the Powerlist has grown into a vital platform that not only recognises Black excellence across sectors but also helps to reframe narratives, influence perceptions, and empower the next generation of leaders.

2. Judging

An independent panel of judges selected the Powerlist 2026.

5. The Powerlist is open to Black Britons wherever they live in the world and to anyone in the UK who is of African, African Caribbean and African American heritage.

6.Politicians and the Powerlist. Why there are no parliamentary politicians in the Powerlist:

In 2024’s judging session, it was  resolved that the Powerlist would no longer include parliamentary politicians in its annual rankings.

The Powerlist has proudly upheld a non-partisan and apolitical ethos since its inception. It never, for example, asks any of the nominees about their political leanings, and they are not judged on that basis either.

The decision to exclude parliamentary politicians from the Powerlist marks a significant shift in the list’s trajectory and reflects the evolving challenges posed by the political landscape and underscores the Powerlist’s unwavering commitment to its mission of recognising and celebrating excellence within black communities free from the constraints of political biases and affiliations.

2025 Honourees: Kanya King CBE and Michael Eboda

London, UK – Wednesday 15th October 2025: Kanya King, founder and CEO of MOBO Group, home to the iconic MOBO Awards, and Michael Eboda, founder and CEO of Powerful Media, publisher of the Powerlist of most influential Black people in Britain, were last night honoured with The Blueprint Award at the celebrated Since ’93 Annual Dinner. The award recognises trailblazers whose leadership, creativity and vision have transformed British culture, while setting the stage for the next generation of change-makers.

The Blueprint Award is both an award and an honour: a formal recognition of achievement and a heartfelt tribute to legacy. By celebrating those who have paved the way, Since ’93 ensures that the inspiration, impact and lessons of today’s leaders continue to empower future generations across industries.

Kanya King CBE has been a defining force in British music and culture for over three decades. Turning a bold idea into a global institution, she launched the MOBO Awards in 1996, establishing a powerful platform celebrating music of Black origin. Under her leadership, MOBO has helped launch the careers of countless artists while driving vital conversations around diversity and equity across the creative industries.

Far beyond an awards show, MOBO has evolved into a cultural and social movement. Through initiatives such as MOBOLISE – a platform championing racial equity in the workplace – MOBO UnSung, which mentors and spotlights emerging artists, and the MOBO Help Musicians Fund, which has provided over £1 million in grants, King has expanded the brand’s impact into education, entrepreneurship, and community empowerment. Together, these initiatives reflect MOBO’s enduring mission to create opportunities, amplify underrepresented voices, and drive systemic change within and beyond the creative economy.

As MOBO approaches its 30th anniversary in 2026 – with celebrations culminating in Manchester on 26 March – King’s legacy continues to grow. Recognised with a CBE for services to music and culture, she remains a trailblazer in entrepreneurship, inclusion, and cultural empowerment.

Eboda, a former lawyer, has spent his career rewriting the narrative around Black achievement in Britain. As CEO of Powerful Media Ltd, he is the driving force behind the Powerlist, the definitive annual ranking of the UK’s most influential Black leaders. His journalism career has seen him work for some of the nation’s most respected outlets, including The Guardian, The Observer, The Sunday Times and The Times. He was also Editorial Director of Ethnic Media Group, publishers of over 10 titles including The New Nation. Through his leadership, Eboda has created a platform that celebrates Black excellence at the highest levels of British society, inspiring generations to follow.

The Blueprint Award was presented to King and Eboda at Since ’93’s Annual Dinner in an evening that united leaders from music, business, lifestyle and culture to mark Black History Month.

King said: “This honour means a lot because it represents the power of vision, community, and legacy. When I founded MOBO, it was never just about music – it was about creating opportunity where none existed and challenging the status quo. To be recognised as part of The Blueprint is a reminder that the work we do today shapes the paths for tomorrow’s leaders. The most meaningful legacy is not what we achieve individually, but what we make possible for others.”

Eboda said: “It’s a real honour to be recognised with The Blueprint Award alongside Kanya, someone whose vision has transformed culture in the UK and beyond. For me, this celebration is about more than personal recognition – it’s about acknowledging the power of legacy, of building platforms that allow others to shine. The work we do with the Powerlist is rooted in the same belief – that visibility matters, that sharing our stories matters, and that by highlighting Black excellence, we create a blueprint for the generations to come. Tonight is a reminder that our responsibility is not just to succeed, but to make sure others can follow.”

King and Eboda join the list of previous honourees including Trenton Harrison Lewis, Senior Vice President at Warner Music Group, Lorna Clarke, Director of Music at the BBC, Raye Cosbert, Managing Director of Metropolis Music, Lord Michael Hastings and musician Kwame Kwaten.

Since its inception, Since ’93 has established itself as a cultural powerhouse. Bleau has represented some of the biggest domestic and international names in music including Emeli Sandi, Sam Smith, Wizkid, Tems, South African singer Tyla and Grammy nominated dancehall superstar Vybz Kartel.

But its mission extends far beyond music – as a full-service entertainment company, Since ’93 is dedicated to nurturing talent, celebrating Black achievement and driving representation at every level.

Highlights: Campaigns, Coverage, and Celebrations

July has been a productive month for us at ESPR. Our team has been working on projects that reflect the heart of what we do, with a lineup of workshops, training sessions, campaigns, and upcoming engagements, connecting people, amplifying voices, and building strategic communications with purpose.

Here are some of the key achievements from a standout month…

ESPR began the month volunteering as part of the PRCA (Public Relations and Communications Association) School Outreach Programme at a secondary school in Croydon. ESPR’s founder, Eva Simpson, delivered a powerful PR workshop to a room full of bright and curious Year 8 students. Through interactive sessions and real-world storytelling, the students learned how public relations shapes narratives and influences perception. Feedback from the school revealed that every student walked away with a deeper understanding of PR and a renewed sense of career inspiration.

Soon after, ESPR facilitated a workshop for long-term client Tudor Trust. Following the launch of its new strategy, Change We Seek,  the Tudor Trust is undergoing a period of significant transformation not only in its funding priorities but also in how it communicates its purpose, values, and direction. As a long-established funder, Tudor Trust now places a clear emphasis on supporting communities that work towards racial justice, and are building power, changing systems, and creating deep, long-term change. However, this strategic shift has brought with it the need for a more transparent, more unified communications approach – both internally and externally.

ESPR held a workshop with Tudor Trust to help define its Mission, Vision and Key Messages for use in its communications going forward.

Midway through the month, ESPR had the opportunity to work with the  Runnymede Trust team in an engaging social media workshop. As a leading race equality think tank in the UK, it was important to offer tailored insights that align with their mission. We explored content strategy, audience engagement, and the power of storytelling in shaping public discourse online.

Also in July, we commenced one of our key projects, the Powerlist Media Campaign.

The Powerlist and Powerful Media are one of our longstanding clients. This year the Powerlist Celebrates its 20th Anniversary.

This campaign celebrates Black excellence and leadership across various industries, creating space for voices that have shaped and are still shaping Britain’s cultural and business landscapes. We were pleased to secure coverage on BBC Radio and in The Voice Newspaper. We are proud to help bring these powerful stories to the forefront.

July saw England win the UEFA Women’s Euro 2025 and our client Eni Aluko took centre stage commentating on the incredible football tournament. In addition to being a pundit on ITV, Eni was also interviewed by Good Morning Britain and Sky News to share her insights and thoughts on the matches. Eni had an incredible opportunity to join the ITN to co-host a special programme of the Lionesses Parade in London. The Daily Mirror’s Darren Lewis and Tom Bryant also invited Eni into his offices for an interview about her life outside punditry which resulted in a double page spread and front page blurb.

As the month wrapped up, ESPR reflected on its participation in SheBoss UK 2025, where Eva Simpson moderated one of the key panel sessions. The event was a powerful gathering spotlighting women in leadership, innovation, and enterprise. It was an honour for ESPR to contribute to this celebration of impact, ownership, and resilience.

It has been a full and rewarding July. Each of these engagements has deepened ESPR’s commitment to strategic communication and community connection. ESPR looks forward to building on this momentum as we head into August, stronger, bolder, and even more intentional.

Eva launched ESPR, a black-owned UK PR agency to amplify unheard voices, particularly black communities and across Africa, and help organisations navigate sensitive cultural issues with authenticity and strategy. The agency has worked or partnered with a range of high-profile clients, including Powerlist Media, Tudor Trust, Runnymede Trust, NHS, and The Church of England. ESPR also supports the visibility of Black leaders and entrepreneurs including Dean Forbes, Eric Collins, and Kevin Okyere, CEO of Springfield Group.

ESPR continues to lead in this space, offering strategic PR rooted in cultural awareness and lived experience.

Empowering the Next Generation: ESPR teams up with PRCA to Deliver PR Masterclass to Budding PRs

ESPR’s founder, Eva, delivered an engaging and practical PR masterclass to Year 8 students in Croydon recently. The session was part of the PRCA schools Outreach Programme offering students an enriching opportunity to explore the dynamic world of Public Relations.

The workshop was designed to introduce young minds to the real-life applications of PR, media, and effective communication. With a focus on storytelling, audience engagement, reputation management, and brand communication, the session helped students connect classroom learning with the skills needed in today’s evolving communications landscape. They have the opportunity to write press releases and crisis communications response statements.Feedback from the session was overwhelmingly positive:

  • 100% of students said they developed a better awareness of opportunities in PR
  • 88% felt inspired to consider a career in PR
  • 100% now feel more ready for a career than they did before the workshop
  • 75% were inspired to work harder at school to improve their chances of pursuing a PR-related career

Students particularly enjoyed the hands-on group activities, including an interactive task that involved protecting a celebrity client, a fun yet insightful way to experience the realities of reputation management.

Eva said: “This really has been one of the highlights of my year so far. I got to introduce the pupils to the world of PR, what it is, how it works and how I went from being a journalist on the Daily Mirror and The Times, to setting up and running my own PR agency.

“The students were so engaged, asking smart thoughtful questions and really getting stuck in. It’s so important to show young people what’s out there. Massive thanks to the PRCA for the opportunity, I’m so proud to be part of this amazing programme.

According to the school’s leadership, the workshop stood out for being both informative and enjoyable. Students walked away with not only practical knowledge but also a clearer picture of what it takes to thrive in the world of communications and PR. The workshop also helped them understand the value of subjects like English and Literature in shaping a successful career in the industry.

This impactful event is a strong reflection of ESPR’s commitment to youth empowerment, education, and the future of strategic communication. Through its school outreach initiatives, ESPR continues to invest in equipping the next generation with the tools they need to tell powerful stories, build meaningful brands, and make lasting impact through communication.

Eva launched ESPR, a black-owned UK PR agency to amplify unheard voices, particularly black communities and across Africa, and help organisations navigate sensitive cultural issues with authenticity and strategy.
