Eni Aluko named in ITV’s Star-Studded Presenting Line-Up for UEFA Women’s Euros 2025

Football pundit, former Lioness, and trailblazer for representation in sport, Eni Aluko is bringing her expertise and insight to ITV’s official broadcast team for the UEFA Women’s Euros 2025.

ITV unveiled Eni as part of its “stellar”  presenting and punditry line-up for the summer’s most anticipated football tournament. A seasoned broadcaster and former England international, Eni offers deep analysis, commentary, and thought-provoking perspectives across ITV1, ITVX, STV, and ITV4.

At ESPR, we are proud to celebrate this exciting milestone in our client Eni’s broadcasting career. She continues to raise the bar not just in sports media, but in leadership, inclusion, and visibility for women, Black professionals, and underrepresented voices in football and beyond.

The UEFA Women’s Euros 2025 kicked  off on Tuesday 2nd July with coverage of Finland vs Iceland and will see ITV broadcast every single match of the tournament live. Viewers can expect expert coverage led by Laura Woods and Seema Jaswal, with Eni joining an elite panel including Karen Carney, Emma Hayes, Vicky Losada, Laura Georges, and Caroline Weir.

After covering the games for ITV Eni will be heading out to Switzerland for the Lionesses’ matches, with UEFA. She’ll then be heading to Morocco for the Women’s AFCON with CAF, the African Football Federation..

Idris Elba gets Sierra Leone Parliament green light for “dream” eco-city island

Landmark moment as government officials ratify investment bill backing ambitious vision for Sherbro Island

FREETOWN, Sierra Leone, 26 June 2025 – Actor and philanthropist Idris Elba and Sherbro Alliance Partners (SAP) have been formally granted approval by the Parliament of Sierra Leone to lead the regeneration of the beautiful Sherbro Island and transform it into an eco-friendly “smart city”.

The Parliament of Sierra Leone has officially ratified a landmark public-private partnership (PPP), established to lead the development of Sherbro Island into a Special Economic Zone (SEZ). The initiative, which has received unanimous backing from the island’s Paramount Chiefs and the wider Bonthe community, will operate as the official Development Authority for Sherbro Island.

Elba partnered with his childhood friend Siaka Stevens in 2019 to form SAP with a mission to transform Sherbro Island into a large-scale and sustainable eco-city, a driver of economic growth for Sierra Leone and the surrounding West Africa region. They share a commitment to building a legacy in Sierra Leone that will promote investment and rapid sustainable growth.

The Government of Sierra Leone and Sherbro Alliance Partners’ commitment to Sherbro Island is reflected in the design of a model SEZ – one that welcomes investors, residents, and visitors alike. Designed with input from local communities and global experts, the plan focuses on sustainable development that protects Sherbro Island’s natural ecosystems while delivering long-term benefits for the people of Sierra Leone.

The development programme will operate under a clear legal and investment framework designed to attract and protect responsible, long-term investment. It anticipates a diverse economy built on services and manufacturing, creating quality jobs for Sierra Leoneans and bringing new skills and opportunities to the region. With modern infrastructure, transparent governance, smart technology, and climate-sensitive policies at its core, the Sherbro SEZ will be a blueprint for inclusive, future-focused growth.

Special Economic Zones (SEZ)

I See Culture: ESPR founder Eva Simpson Shares Her Journey at SXSW London

Founder and Director of ESPR, Eva Simpson, took to the stage at the inaugural SXSW London festival earlier this month, speaking on a powerful panel titled “I See Culture: Crafting Legacy Through Cultural Competency.”

The event, held at a packed venue in Shoreditch, East London, brought together creatives and thought leaders from across the UK and beyond. Joined by Eva Omaghomi, the founder of Forster Jones Associates, a culture architect and Community Engagement Advisor to King Charles III, and Irene Agbontaen, the Director of Artist Brand Strategy (Europe) at UTA and also the founder of TTYA London, a fashion brand for tall women, and a respected voice in music and fashion, Eva spoke passionately about her career journey – from breaking barriers in Fleet Street newsrooms to launching award-winning agency ESPR. The session drew a full house, with standing room only, as Eva shared her perspective on why cultural capital is not only important but vital.

Drawing on her 20+ year career – from national newspapers including The Times, thelondonpaper and the Daily Mirror, to founding one of the UK’s leading PR agencies specialising in complex race and inclusion narratives – Eva spoke about how cultural capital should be embraced, not downplayed.

“People often think culture is something that will hold them back,” Eva told the audience. “But our backgrounds, our accents, our ways of seeing the world – they’re our power. They shape how we connect, create and lead.”

The Tudor Trust Announces First Round of Grants After Major Transformation

Under New Strategy the Charitable Trust Pledges £10 Million to Empower Racial Justice, Support Systemic Change and Champion Shift in Philanthropy

London: April 3rd, 2025 – The Tudor Trust is excited to announce its first group of grant funding following a major transformation of the organisation. 

As part of its new Change We Seek strategy Tudor is focusing on providing larger, but fewer, longer-term grants to organisations and leaders tackling social injustice through a racial injustice lens. In this first round, Tudor will award a total of £10 million to 18 groups across the UK committed to advancing racial justice and driving meaningful systemic change.

This includes 11 “Learning Partners” – organisations that as well as aligning with its Change We Seek strategy are open to collaborating with Tudor on a shared learning journey. These groups will receive a total of £9.3 million in flexible and unrestricted long-term funding, distributed over periods of up to six years. 

In addition, seven groups have been chosen as “Exploration Partners” – smaller organisations which align with Tudor’s new strategy and who are still developing their strategic ambitions. Each will receive a one-time unrestricted grant of £100,000.

Organisations already receiving Tudor grants, with whom the Trust has had the pleasure of collaborating over many years, will continue to be funded until the end of their existing agreements.

Raji Hunjan, CEO of The Tudor Trust, said: “This marks a defining moment for the Tudor Trust with racial justice now embedded as the lens through which we will tackle all forms of injustice. Our transformation is about shifting power and building deeper relationships with our grant partners. By committing £10 million to organisations driving racial justice and systemic change, we are investing in a future shaped by those with lived experience alongside their communities.” 

“To truly live their ambitions, the organisations we are partnering with have been funded in a way that moves us away from a scarcity mindset and instead focuses on what it takes to unlock their full potential and enable them to thrive.”  

Over the past few years, Tudor has undergone a major shift in how it operates. At the heart of the organisation’s reorganisation is its Change We Seek strategy, which envisions a just, equitable world where resources are abundant for all. 

By focusing on fewer, more impactful grants, Tudor fosters deeper collaboration with its partners, empowering them to shape a more just and equitable future.

Its new approach values all assets – including people, culture, and investments, alongside grant-making – to drive systemic change and redistribute power. It believes that achieving justice requires collective action and placing lived experiences at its centre.

It acknowledges philanthropy’s historical role in reinforcing inequity and commits to shifting its philanthropy from holding power over communities to working with them, fostering transformative change. Internally, it champions bravery, collaboration, and integrity. 

As part of its new mission, Tudor has restructured its leadership to bring in a more diverse board and staff, and it is now focused on funding organisations that tackle the root causes of systemic inequity and racial injustice.

Due to the organisation’s recent transformation, this first round of funding was by invitation only.  This has enabled Tudor to test a different grant-making model which shifts power from trustee-led decision making to staff who are closer to the issues on the ground.  The Board continues to have oversight.  As Tudor moves forward, the next round of funding will be based on what Tudor learns from its grantee partners in this first round and so will also be by invitation.

UK’s Community, Corporate and Culture Unsung Heroes Honoured At Awards Ceremony In London

Kameese Davies, founder of Nylah’s Natural, winner of the Inspirational Mother of the Year award

Winston Goode,  community leader who works to end youth violence, received the Community Impact Leader Award.

London: March 3rd, 2025—The UK’s unsung heroes have been honoured at the inaugural Community, Corporate, and Culture Awards,(CCCAs) an evening of celebration and inspiration from those who have made a meaningful impact and contributed to the development and success of others.

Launched by co-founders Mahari Hay and Mexy Thomas to celebrate the value and importance of community spirit, the awards recognised the often-overlooked contributions of individuals who help strengthen and uplift their communities.

Hosted by comedian Thanyia Moore, VIP guests, including Dawn Butler MP, joined the finalists and their families, at the Leonardo Royal Hotel, London on Saturday night, in celebrating all who have significantly impacted communities, culture and corporates over the past year.

The audience was moved to tears as they listened to powerful and inspirational stories of dedication, and community impact, making the awards ceremony a truly unforgettable and emotional celebration.

This year’s winners included Kameese Davies, founder of natural hair care brand Nylah’s Natural, who won the Inspirational Mother of the Year Award for her dedication to creating natural hair care products while balancing motherhood and entrepreneurship. As a role model for women navigating similar journeys, Kameese from the West Midlands, shares her experiences to foster a sense of community and empowerment.

Winston Goode, founder and CEO of Juvenis, received one of the loudest cheers when he picked up the Community Impact Leader Award for his commitment to supporting young Londoners and preventing youth violence. The Londoner’s influential report, Life As A Top Boy, has gained global recognition, and his work engages young people, their schools, and families to provide a holistic support system.

Alton Brown, also from London, was honored with the Public Sector Excellence Award for his leadership in using sport and art to tackle inequality and create opportunities for young people. As a trustee of two award-winning youth charities, he played a key role in the Bring the Power national youth engagement programme, which reached nearly one million young people across 16 countries.

Speaking about the awards’ success, co-founder Mahari said: “The ceremony was like a movie – a powerful celebration of the unsung heroes in our communities – individuals and corporate champions who make a real difference in culture, social impact, and everyday life. Their dedication and selflessness often go unnoticed, but tonight, we gave them the recognition they truly deserve. We are incredibly proud to honour their contributions and shine a spotlight on their inspiring work.”

Other winners included: Brixton Soup Kitchen, which won the Charity of the Year Award and who have served over 355,000 meals through food drop offs and outreach sessions since 2013. Fiddy Patel was recognised as ‘Role Model  of the Year’ for her work with Bolton United Girls and her commitment to establishing a youth club in the community. Lorraine Dublin, lead microbraid wig stylist for the recent cinema blockbuster Wicked! scooped the Creative Success Award due to her trailblazing influence and creativity in the beauty industry. Sporting Icon of the Year Award was received by Rudy O’Halloran who set up and runs the Birmingham Run Club – where people connect, support each other, and rise over their challenges together.

Sarah Taitt, Chief Property and Services Officer at Wickes, the headline sponsor of the awards said: “The award ceremony was a truly inspiring event, celebrating the selfless dedication of individuals who go above and beyond for their communities. We are proud to support this initiative and celebrate the unsung heroes making a real difference.”

HSBC, which is committed to fostering inclusiveness and uplifting communities, partnered with the CCCAs as a Gold Participating Organisation. Shauna Roper, the bank’s Global Head of DE&I said: “Seeing the passion and commitment of these incredible individuals was humbling.

“At HSBC, we believe in the power of community, and it’s an honour to help recognise those who work tirelessly to improve the lives of others.”

The BBC supported the awards as a ‘participating organisation’. Annisha Taylor, BBC Head of Diversity, Inclusion & Belonging, said:  “It was an unforgettable evening filled with stories of resilience, kindness, and unwavering commitment. We are proud to stand alongside such inspirational figures and support an event that shines a light on the true changemakers in our communities.”

Che Wheatley, Head of Marketing at Financial Times Live, the media partner for the awards, said: “At the awards we witnessed the impact of everyday heroes whose work often goes unnoticed. Tech CEO and philanthropist Dean Forbes Named Britain’s Most Influential Black Person by the Powerlist 2025

Bank chief Bernard Mensah, Emma Grede, CEO Good American and Alexander and Oliver Kent-Braham also make the Top 10

London, Friday 25th October 2024Dean Forbes, British business executive and CEO of Forterro, a global software solutions company, has been named the UK’s most influential Black person by The Powerlist 2025. The annual list recognises the UK’s most powerful people of African, African Caribbean, and African American heritage.

Forbes, a transformative leader in the tech sector, heads the prestigious list, which celebrates Black excellence across various industries, replacing former British Vogue Editor-In-Chief Edward Enninful who was number one last year. He is joined in the Top 10 by influential figures such as Bernard Mensah, President of International at Bank of America and Chief Executive Officer of Merrill Lynch International (MLI) and Afua Kyei, Chief Financial Officer at the Bank of England.

Newcomers on the Powerlist 2025, in partnership with J.P. Morgan, include Emma Grede, founding partner of Kim Kardashian’s $4 billion Skims empire; Adejoké Bakare, the UK’s first Black female Michelin-starred chef; Andrew ‘Rapman’ Onwubolu, Creator of Netflix’s recent global smash hit show Supercell; and Damson Idris, star of hit crime drama Snowfall.   

This year’s Powerlistees will be honoured at the Powerlist Celebration of Black Excellence Awards on Friday, October 25, 2024, hosted by businessman and television personality Tim Campbell, MBE at The Grosvenor House Hotel in London.

The Powerlist, launched in 2005, was created to showcase Black role models to inspire young people. Today, it is widely regarded as the leading authority on issues of Black influence in the UK. In partnership with J.P. Morgan, the Powerlist honours incredible men and women across a diverse range of industries, including business, science, technology, and the arts.

The Powerlist has proudly upheld a non-partisan and apolitical ethos since its inception. We never, for example, ask any of the nominees about their political leanings, and they are not judged on that basis either. 

The decision to exclude parliamentary politicians from the Powerlist marks a significant shift in the list’s trajectory and reflects the evolving challenges posed by the political landscape and underscores the Powerlist’s unwavering commitment to its mission of recognising and celebrating excellence within black communities free from the constraints of political biases and affiliations.

Tech CEO Dean Forbes Named Number One on the Powerlist of Most Influential Black Britons

London, Friday October 25th, 2024 – Business leader and philanthropist Dean Forbes has been named number one on the prestigious Powerlist 2025, celebrating the most influential Black Britons. Forbes, chief of software company Forterro, is one of a small group of Black CEOs globally to lead companies valued at over €2 billion.

His rise to the top of the Powerlist underscores his extraordinary journey from humble beginnings to international business success. In addition to his business achievements, Forbes has also channelled significant resources – more than £1.2 million – directly through his not-for-profit, the Forbes Family Group (FFG), to support causes close to his family, focused on providing opportunities through active capital and small business investments, as well as mentor and career development opportunities for those socially disadvantaged communities and marginalised individuals. 

Forbes, who was ranked second on last year’s Powerlist, replaces former British Vogue Editor-In-Chief Edward Enninful as the number one most influential Black Briton. Also included on the list this year are Bernard Mensah, President of Bank of America and Chief Executive Officerof Merrill Lynch International and Afua Kyei, Chief Financial Officer of the Bank of England.

A proven business leader, Forbes has a remarkable track record of scaling and transforming ventures. Most notably, he oversaw the €1 billion acquisition of Forterro by Partners Group, As the company’s CEO he is working towards fulfilling his vision of growing Forterro to a valuation of €4 billion over the coming years. 

Forbes’ rise to prominence is all the more impressive given his early life challenges. Raised on a working-class estate in south east London, he experienced homelessness twice as a teenager and began his career in a Motorola call centre after being released from Crystal Palace Football Club. His first major breakthrough came at just 29, when he played a key role in the global expansion of US software company Primavera, leading to its sale to Oracle for $550 million.

His tenure as CEO of KDS, a travel and expense management software company, marked another career highlight. Forbes led KDS to record-breaking success, culminating in its acquisition by American Express in their largest tech deal at the time. He later drove the rapid growth of CoreHR, which was then acquired by Access Group.

Forbes’ impact extends beyond the boardroom. As a partner at Corten Capital, he has helped the firm raise a €1 billion fund and acquire four software companies in just two years.

In addition to his business ventures, Forbes is deeply committed to philanthropy. His personal journey inspired him to create the Forbes Family Group (FFG), through which he has supported numerous charitable causes. Recently, FFG organised a high-profile gala for the African Leukaemia Trust (ACLT), raising over £400,000 in one night alone to support critical medical research and patient care.

Perspective(s): Artists Reimagine Welsh History in Groundbreaking Decolonisation Project

A lavish red sofa once owned by a British colonialist who played a key role in establishing British rule in  India, coarse Welsh fabricused to clothe victims of transatlantic slavery, and the traces of the slave trade left behind on slate from north Wales are just some of the objects being re-examined at the heart of Perspective(s), an ambitious Welsh arts programme launching this month. 

This groundbreaking initiative, which is supported by the Welsh Government as part of a collective effort to meet the culture and heritage goals of the Anti-racist Wales Action Plan,  features the work of seven ethnically and culturally diverse artists from across Wales. 

Perspective(s) aims to decolonise the national collection by reinterpreting these objects and raising critical questions about whose voices are heard in our museums and whose stories are told.

In collaboration with all seven Amgueddfa Cymru – Museum Wales sites, the artists invite audiences to view overlooked or marginalised histories embedded within the chosen objects, and explore how understanding the past can shape a more inclusive future. 

As part of Perspective(s), each artist has been paired with a leading Welsh visual arts organisation – each of whom worked closely with the creatives to bring the project to life alongside museum curators.

Visitors are invited to explore installations like Nasia Sarwar-Skuse’s Wales Is…talking about empire at St Fagans National Museum of History. The space, a recreation of a South Asian living room, is centred around a sofa once owned by Robert Clive – known as “Clive of India” – whose command of the East India Company’s army played a major role in British colonisation of India. 

Nasia partnered with the artist-led social enterprise Ways of Working as well as curators from St Fagans on this project.

The other artists and their Visual Arts Organisation and museum partners are:

  • Hannan Jones, Artes Mundi and National Roman Legion Museum, using sonic and film work to ignite conversations around alternative histories and unseen narratives.
  • Jasmine Violet, Aberystwyth Arts Centre and National Slate Museum, examining the connections between the Welsh slate industry, the Caribbean, and the transatlantic slave trade.
  • Lal Davies, GS Artists and National Waterfront Museum, exploring Wales’ copper industry and its imperial links through a digital exhibition integrating film, personal archive objects, photography and text.
  • Lucille Junkere at National Wool Museum, exploring Wesh Plains, a low-quality coarse woollen cloth used to clothe enslaved Africans kidnapped to work on plantations in the Americas during the trans-Atlantic slave trade.
  • Sadia Pineda Hameed, Llantarnam Grange Arts Centre and Big Pit National Coal Museum, forming connections between Wales’ history of mining and strike, and global resource extraction and labour movements today.
  • Sophie Mak-Schram, Chapter Arts Centre and National Museum Cardiff, researching the ways that power is structured in the institution, its collections and its histories of display, to collaboratively develop ‘tools’ that challenge or reflect on power and its effects.

These artists, representing a dynamic range of disciplines and backgrounds, are not merely curating art; they are fostering dialogue around the representation of history, power, and identity. Through their lenses, they seek to tell stories that reflect the lived experiences of diverse communities in Wales, both historically and in the present.

Lal Davies said: “My work focuses on historical objects as a portal to unlocking both personal and societal narratives and my background demonstrates how Welsh identity can be complex and nuanced. Perspective(s) is a platform to add my voice to Wales’ ambition to become an anti-racist nation by 2030, through film and visual arts work.”

Lucille Junkere said: “I applied to Perspective(s) to respond to Welsh Plains. While valuable research exists on the  material, the perspective of those forced to wear the uncomfortable, scratchy woollen cloth is  missing. I wanted to introduce an artistic and curatorial approach that does not minimise the  atrocities of the British Empire. Instead, I wanted to create compelling displays and narratives that  do not present palatable versions of history but reveal multiple stories while amplifying and  celebrating marginalised voices.”

Nasia Sawar-Skuse said: “I got involved with Perspective(s) while researching Robert Clive’s connection to Wales for my PhD, which presented an ideal opportunity to challenge traditional historical narratives by highlighting overlooked stories and connections with empire, particularly those related to the Clive family, and to foster a deeper understanding of Wales’ cultural heritage.”

Sadia Pineda Hameed:  “My (project) explores strategies of resistance from the Welsh mining strikes – which fought for workers’ rights, the protection of land, culture and community – and how these can become symbols of international solidarity for mining strikes today.”

Sophie Mak-Schram:  “Decolonising involves the reorientation of many values and structures that currently oppress most of us. The question is, in the European context, can one decolonise from a colonial centre? I have been working on themes that relate to this question across my artistic and academic work for a long time, and am now excited to be working in the specific context of Cardiff, a city with a lot of complex histories.”

Director of Experience, Learning and Engagement at Amgueddfa Cymru, Nia Williams, said: “Perspective(s) is an innovative way of working that will bring about a much-needed step change in how Amgueddfa Cymru reflects the diversity of our society. 

“We actively support a collective effort towards an anti-racist Wales and therefore this collaboration with Arts Council of Wales, the seven creative professionals and arts organisations has been invaluable. We will take forward the relationships developed as part of Perspective(s) and build on our learnings and the new ways of working that have emerged from this initiative”.

Dafydd Rhys, Chief Executive, Arts Council of Wales said: “We are so pleased to have worked with Amgueddfa Cymru, with seven incredible artists, and contemporary arts organisations from across Wales to make this programme possible. Perspective(s) has explored new ways of working that are inclusive and democratic, making sure that the arts and heritage sector reflects the histories of culturally and ethnically diverse communities that have previously been overlooked.

“We hope that the creative outputs from the projects will challenge and engage audiences from all backgrounds, highlighting our shared and complex heritage”.

Perspective(s) is a collaboration between Arts Council of Wales and Amgueddfa Cymru – Museum Wales.  The programme runs from now and throughout 2025.

Amgueddfa Cymru’s dedication to decolonising the collection

There is no single definition that explains exactly what decolonising means, so our Charter lays out what it means for Amgueddfa Cymru. It defines six areas where we will work collaboratively with communities of relevance on the journey towards decolonising the collection.  

Amgueddfa Cymru recognises that museums, their collections and cultures are often rooted in colonialism and racism.

In summer 2021, we published our charter on decolonising the national collections. The charter focuses on six key areas of work to undertaking the decolonisation process:

15th Anniversary of the GUBA Awards – Celebrating African Excellence

From Seeds to Crystal: Lady Dentaa Amoateng, MBE calls for Africans to unite to grow and unlock the continent’s potential

LONDON, Friday 29th November 2024 – The iconic GUBA Awards proudly marks its 15th anniversary with a call from its founder, Lady Dentaa Amoateng, MBE, for Africans across the globe to unite and unlock the continent’s boundless potential. 

The awards will commemorate their key milestone with an exclusive VIP networking event that will be held on Friday, November 29th, 2024, at the Commonwealth Secretariat, Marlborough House, London. The invitation-only event will bring together prominent leaders, innovators, and visionaries, reflecting on GUBA’s legacy and celebrating its role in amplifying African achievements while fostering meaningful connections between Africa and the diaspora.

This anniversary will honour a legacy of promoting African excellence while spotlighting the call for unity and progress on the continent. Guests, including award-winning designer Ozwald Boateng, OBE, parliamentarians Bell Ribeiro-Addy and Dawn Butler, footballer  and broadcaster Eni Aluko, and singer Fuse ODG, will gather to reflect on GUBA’s impact and celebrate its enduring mission.

Since its inception in 2009, the GUBA Awards have expanded far beyond their initial roots. The inaugural ceremony was held at London’s Porchester Hall, and has since journeyed to Ghana, Rwanda, and the USA, uniting global audiences in recognising African excellence. The next step in this illustrious journey will see GUBA venture to the Caribbean, celebrating the shared history and culture.

The impact of GUBA has been incredible. Not only has it been an inspiration and a beacon of hope for young people to see others from the same heritage doing remarkable things and being celebrated, it has encouraged them to also try to emulate their work.

Reflecting on GUBA’s journey Lady Dentaa said: “We all know Africa has the potential to be one of the greatest places on earth. I urge leaders, the African diaspora, and Africans on the continent to grow, unite, and build Africa. Africa has it all—resources, business opportunities, tourism, food—you name it. It’s time for Africans to reap the benefits of our incredible potential.

Over the past 15 years, GUBA has honoured names such as actor Idris Elba, music artist Stormzy, music icon Angelique Kidjo, leading Ghanaian businessman Sir Sam Jonah and Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala Director General of the World Trade Organisation. Celebrated past attendees have included global leaders such as President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, Cherie Blair, and it has received endorsements from King Charles III and former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson.
